I considered attending this year, but we've been busy with high school graduation activities. My oldest daughter graduated this past weekend. Mary and I visited Townsend a couple years ago. We would love to make the trip again.

I made my own scraper plane, but I have not had a chance to use it yet. I am hoping to try it out on the next rod I make. Also, you would not by chance be planing to come to the Bamboo bash and Troutfest in Townsend, Tn. at this week would you?

Matthew,<BR/><BR/>Yes. That's correct. I plane to final with the block plane. The scraper is a great tool, but it's overkill. And using a scraper isn't as simple as making a few passes with the plane. The blade is sharpened differently than a block plane and the blade angle needs to be set correctly to avoid chatter marks. You may not notice the chatter marks until the varnish is applied.

I noticed that you said you do not use your scraper plane. Does this mean that you are able to plane your strips to final dimensions with your G-12?
