2008 Tapers

Posted by David Bolin

I keep changing my mind but I think this is it for 2008. Actually, I only finished 2 rods in 2007. I'm not sure why I think I can do 6 in one year. Except that I'm probably going to make "shop rods" out of the 5 and 6wts. Probably won't worry to much about the cosmetics. I just want to see how the tapers perform. The 4wts are going to Kyle and Terre. I'll do the best I can on their rods.

This is the 4, 5 and 6wt versions of taper 2 and 4 from the standard taper series (see the taper research posts). These two tapers are diametrically opposed designs. Taper 2 produces a convex bent stress curve and taper 4 is concave. In theory, taper 2 should have a smooth progressive load (mid flex in graphite terms). Taper 4 should load deeper with less effort (full flex). We'll see.
