Nunleyism

Posted by David Bolin

For those of you that aren't familiar with commonly used rodmaking nomenclature, a nunleyism is a blooper. They usually involve physical injury in a rod shop. An celebrated rod maker by the name of Bob Nunley inspired the term with some of his less than gracefull rod shop events.

My nunleyism can't compete with some of Bob's but I thought it was worth mentioning. I've been diligently trying to wrap the guides on these five rods so they can be varnished in a couple weeks and fished hard in October. Take a close look at this photo. Click on it to enlarge it. See anything wrong with the guides? They're on opposite flats. I suppose I could call it a twisted rod, but I don't think my friend Tony Spezio would approve of that. I guess I should fix it. Back to the work bench...

Oh, yes those are bubble gum wraps. They look really nice after the secret varnish stuff is applied. Trust me on that. I'll post step by step pictures of the varnish process...so I'll remember how I did it next time.
