Splitting Cane

Split and flamed some cane this weekend. Worked two culms. Hope to get a couple 2 piece and a couple 3 piece rods out of them. Actually, this will be my first attempt at a 3 piece. I'm not sure how that's going to work out. The idea is to build a pack rod and do some hiking with Matt West and his dad in Colorado. They have a special interest in bamboo rods and high mountain lake fishing. I'm a little concerned about the hiking thing. Making the rod may be easier than the hike. Not sure where the other rods will end up. They'll probably be bouncing around in a friends pickup truck during the week and catching fish on the weekend. It doesn't get any better than that!
