Spring River December 16, 2006
Posted by David BolinFished the Spring River with Tom "@Buzzard Bluff" today. It was my first time to fish the Spring. Tom gave me the tour from Buzzard Bluff to the hatchery at Dam number 3. We fished both sides of the island. The water was to high and fast to navigate in the main channel. The side buy the parking lot was perfect. Started at the bottom of the island and fished upsteam with an egg pattern in the runs catching several 12 to 14 inch rainbows.
We spent a few minutes in Tom's work shop before heading to the river. He pulled out a nice old bamboo fly rod, then another and another. I felt right at home. When we got to the river, out came a Charlie Ritz designed 'Parabolic Royale' by Pezon & Michel. A 2 piece 5 wt. Sweet! He let me fish the rod. Caught 3 or 4 small rainbows. Handed it back to him, and it was like three old friends worked together to show me up. A sweet old fly rod, a 20 inch bow and the gentleman that conducted the whole event. Said another way, two quick casts and he had a 20 inch bow on. Check out the first three photos.
It was a great trip. Tom is a gracious host on his homewater. And Buzzard Bluff is an outdoorsmans pardise. Thanks Tom! I'll be back with a hundred of my best friends...well maybe just 3 or 4.
